BC’s Healthcare System

The healthcare system in British Columbia is structured to reflect and serve the diversity of our province.

There are eight public health employers that plan, deliver, and administer health care services for residents of BC:

  • Five of our public health employers are regionally based and provide service to a specific geographical area: Fraser Health, Interior Health, Island Health, Northern Health, and Vancouver Coastal Health.
  • A provincial agency based in Vancouver – Provincial Health Services Authority – delivers programs and specialized services across the province.
  • A faith-based healthcare agency – Providence Health Care – provides care throughout the Greater Vancouver region.
  • The First Nations Health Authority is focused on improving the health and health outcomes for First Nations people across the province.
